Nature Photography Day: Finding Beauty in Slowing Down

Why Nature Photography Still Matters to Me
Today is Nature Photography Day, and while my lens is often focused on brides, houseplants, small business owners, and nonprofit leaders, I still have a soft spot for the quiet beauty of the outdoors. Lambs, mountains, hydrangeas lining my front porch, moss growing on a trail, the cotton candy colors of a sunrise, or puppies bring me back to the natural and unposed creation all around me.

Photography Before It Was a Business
Before I ever thought about running a photography business, before I knew what a client gallery even was, I was just a single momma with a point-and-shoot camera, walking through the woods and snapping pictures of flowers and bugs. When I was in high school, I thought I’d go into the medical field. Photography wasn’t even on the radar. It was just something that helped me slow down, notice things, and breathe a little deeper.
And maybe that’s why I still find myself drawn to nature when I need a reset.
An Invitation to Create Instead of Scroll
Photography as Connection and Presence
Today also happens to be Father’s Day, so here’s my gentle nudge: grab your dad (or someone you love), your cell phone, and go take a walk. Notice the way the light hits the leaves. Snap a few pictures, even if you don’t plan to post them. You might be surprised by how good it feels to create something beautiful instead of scrolling past it.
Whether you’re photographing weddings, headshots, brand sessions or wildflowers, there’s always something worth seeing if you take the time to look.
Happy Nature Photography Day. And Happy Father’s Day, too.
