Lifestyle photography is near and dear to my heart for several reasons. Mainly, there's less pressure to produce all the images you devour on Pinterest. You know the ones I'm talking about--everyone is posed meticulously and matching. Don't get me wrong, I love those sessions and really want them for my own family. However, there's a different emotion in images when a family is relaxed, in their own space, and having fun together.
When a lifestyle session is scheduled, I give my family a little bit of guidance on two points. One, find the two or three best spots best for natural light and two, try to convince mom or grandma that their house doesn't need to be completely immaculate. I'm a mom and I totally get it!! Just try to tidy up the areas where the best natural light is and, voila, we're ready! Depending on the weather, shooting on the front porch on the swing set is just as important to me as the living room or the kitchen.
If you know me, you know Valentine's Day is my ABSOLUTE favorite day of the year. There can never be enough hearts, glitter, sequins, glitter, pink, glitter, hugs, cookies, glitter, glitter, glitter, glitter, and more hearts and glitter. Valentine's Day is a celebration of relationship. Moms and kids, siblings, husbands and wives, friends, co-workers, neighbors. It's the perfect chance to pause your crazy, busy American life and say, "I love you" or "I love this about you."
What better time of the year to have some fun celebrating LOVE than with a cookie party with your grandkids! Karen wanted a lifestyle session with her three grandchildren. She purchased a pre-made cookie kit from a nearby favorite, Cross Roads Cafe, decorated her table in her dining room where natural light pours in, and had the glasses of milk all ready to go! We spent most of our time indoors with the frosting and cookies, but took advantage of the shade on her front porch for some snuggling photos before the decorating got underway.
Here's to celebrating family with snuggles, sugar cookies, sprinkles and big smiles.
Happy Valentine's Day, friends!
